Contact Angle Meters

The contact angle which a liquid forms on a smooth, homogeneous surface is dependent on the solid’s surface energy; higher energy surfaces exhibit a smaller contact angle, and offer better wettability. Contact angle meters use distilled water to test films and flats, as well as curved or cylindrical objects.

Whereas carefully performed dyne tests are generally best advised for production-oriented testing (due to low initial and operating cost, quick turnaround time, adequate precision and replicability, and excellent modeling of the actual interfacial dynamics manifest in most manufacturing operations), the contact angle test is by far preferred for more basic laboratory research. It is ideal for R&D projects which require ultimate precision and replicability.

CAM-PLUS Film Meter–for Plastic Films

Meets ASTM D5946 and TAPPI T565 pm-96, and Includes Ionizer

Description: This benchtop optical device incorporates a special light source and a projection screen with a protractor. A film specimen holder – which provides constant tension on the film sample to keep it smooth, while allowing easy advancement through the device for multiple measurements –secures the test sample. A micrometer syringe is used to dispense precise droplets of reagent-grade water onto the surface. The image of the droplet is then projected on the screen, enabling the tester to make an accurate, direct contact angle measurement.

The CAM-PLUS meter offers high repeatability and precision; eliminates use of solvent-based test solutions; and generates SPC data which correlate readily with the more widely referenced dynes/cm measurement scale.

CAM-PLUS Micro for objects up to 2" x 2"

This meter functions quite similarly to the model used on films. However, it is designed to measure contact angles on non-film surfaces up to one inch thick. 6x magnification is also available.
